Atala Butterfly

Date: November 18, 2007 Location: Okeeheelee Park (Florida) Country: United States Comments: A small and very beautiful butterfly named the Atala. Found only in southeastern Florida, it nearly went extinct. Thankfully the preservation of its host plant has allowed it to make a bit of a comeback. I didn't know its rarity or story when I took this photograph, but was pleased to learn of my find when I got back home to my butterfly book. |
