Albright Grove Realm of Giant Trees © Judd Patterson (Photo #672)
Date: August 1, 2006 Location: Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tennessee) Country: United States Comments: In the remote mountains of Great Smoky Mountains National Park lie some of the oldest trees in the eastern United States. Among large Eastern Hemlock and Magnolia Trees are ancient old-growth Yellow Poplars (a.k.a. Tulip Trees). These massive trees tower above everything else and have trunks that dwarf the hikers that view them. This photograph does not show the largest of the trees, but it conveys a bit of the mystery of this unique section of eastern deciduous forest. |
